Cataract Evaluations
-
A CATARACT is a clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. Although cataracts usually form over the age of 55, they occasionally occur in infants and young children.

Symptoms vary depending on the size and location of the cloudiness and may include: blurred, hazy or distorted vision, decreased ability to discriminate colors, decreased ability to see the TV and road signs, increased glare at night especially while driving and major changes in your glasses prescription.
When you come to our office, Dr. Moore will perform a thorough examination to determine the presence and extent of cataracts. In some cases, a change in eyeglass prescription is all that's needed to improve your vision. Increasing the amount of light while reading may also be beneficial.
When a cataract progresses to a point where normal vision is affected, surgery may be needed. Fortunately, cataract surgery is one of the safest and most effective types of surgery performed in the United States. Once the cloudy natural lens is removed, it is replaced with a clear, plastic intraocular lens (IOL) New technology has provided many different vision options after surgery. Dr. Moore will discuss these options to help you decide which type of implant is best for you.
Depending on your particular circumstances, you may even be able to have all pre-op and follow-up care performed right in our office, starting the day after surgery. This is just another way you can receive QUALITY CARE, CLOSE TO HOME.
Lasik Evaluations
LASIK, a form of refractive surgery, is an option for vision correction without glasses or contact lenses. Simply put, LASIK reshapes the cornea with a laser.
Recently, other surgical alternatives have become available. Among these is a technique called phakic IOL implantation which involves implanting a lens behind the cornea, but in front of the iris.
With this new option, many of those who were too highly nearsighted for LASIK are now candidates for refractive surgery.
If you are interested in refractive surgery, please let us know. Refractive surgery is not to be taken lightly. Detailed testing is necessary to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for the surgery.
If testing shows you to be a good candidate, we can help you choose the refractive surgeon who is most appropriate for your case. In addition, we provide post-operative care for refractive surgery.
